Meesho product photos for new sellers: what actually gets your listing seen

Meesho's buyer base is different from Amazon and Flipkart — price-sensitive, mobile-only, and heavily influenced by how the product looks in a small tile. Here is what works.

Meesho has over 140 million transacting customers, most of them in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, most of them shopping on cheap Android phones, almost all of them extremely price-sensitive. If you are used to Amazon or Flipkart, the Meesho buyer behaves differently and your product images need to reflect that.

Meesho image specifications

  • Minimum size: 800×800 pixels
  • Recommended: 1000×1000 pixels
  • Format: JPEG or PNG
  • Background: white or off-white preferred for most categories
  • Maximum 7 images per listing

What Meesho buyers respond to

Meesho's demographic is not the same as Amazon Premium or Nykaa. They are buying a ₹199 kurti, a ₹299 bedsheet set, a ₹149 kitchen organiser. For this buyer, the product image needs to communicate value — that the product looks as good as it costs, and that there are no hidden disappointments.

Full-product, well-lit images on a clean background consistently outperform artsy or dark-background lifestyle shots on Meesho. The buyer wants to see exactly what they are getting. Show every included item. Show it clearly. Show it against a light background so the colours are accurate.

The colour accuracy problem

Meesho has a returns problem that affects all sellers, and inaccurate colour in product images is one of the top causes. A bedsheet that looks bright blue in the photo arriving as a muted steel blue causes returns and negative ratings.

Shoot in indirect natural daylight or with a neutral white (5500K–6500K) artificial light source. Avoid shooting near coloured walls or furniture that cast a colour tint on the product. After shooting, check the image on a cheap Android device — that is the screen your buyers are using, and colour rendering on a budget Android is often warmer and more saturated than on a desktop monitor.

The reseller share mechanic

Unlike Amazon or Flipkart, Meesho has a large reseller layer — people who share product listings to their WhatsApp and social networks and earn a margin. When a reseller shares your product, the main image and title are what their contacts see. A clean, appealing main image is effectively being shown to buyers by someone they trust personally.

This means a good main image on Meesho is doing double duty: it attracts direct buyers in the app, and it becomes a shareable asset for the reseller network. An image that looks like it was photographed in a dim room on a dirty surface will not get shared.

Fashion specifically: show every colour variant separately

For clothing and fashion items, upload separate images for each colour variant. Meesho buyers do not always navigate to a different variant listing — they may scroll past if they do not see their preferred colour in the main image set. A small additional effort in uploading per-colour images noticeably affects units sold.

Practical tip

Meesho's search ranks listings partly on return rate. Accurate product images — accurate colour, accurate size impression, showing exactly what is in the box — are one of the few things sellers control that directly reduce returns.
